Slot-holders for the Four Pillars Midway have been put on notice after KOBESTAR powered to victory at yesterday’s Gosford meeting.
KOBESTAR had bounced out of his first-up run for the training team of Rob and Luke Price, and backed up that runner-up finish with a second career win in the Class 1 Handicap (1200m).
Tommy Berry has been in the saddle for both our boy’s wins, and the gun hoop believes KOBESTAR will be at his best when he gets out to 1400m or a mile. Given that the inaugural Four Pillars Midway – which gives Kosciuszko ticket holders a second chance to snag a prized ‘slot’ – is run over 1500m, the $700,000 race would appear to be right in his sweet spot.
“It was a great effort to win today, because he didn’t travel that well for me,” said Tommy post-race.
“Bigger tracks are going to suit him better to give him time to wind up. I think 1400 metres will be his pet trip or maybe up to a mile, that’s where you’ll see the best of him.”
Rob Price was also of the view that KOBESTAR will be better over further and was very pleased with the big boy’s performance, saying: “It was going to take a great effort to win on that tight turning track because he’s a big horse.
“He got a gem of a ride off a hot tempo, as Tommy said he will be better suited when he gets up to 1400 metres so we probably won’t stretch him too much further at this point, especially as we’re getting some good results with him.”
The Four Pillars is run on Golden Eagle Day at Rosehill on 30 October, let’s hope KOBESTAR’s form has piqued some interest.
