VAPORIZING is the hot favourite to claim a third career win when he lines up in tonight’s Benchmark 62 Handicap (1000m) at the Sunshine Coast.
The consistent 5YO heads north to the Sunny Coast in fine fettle, with a win and two minor placings from his last three starts for top trainer Tony Gollan.
The form has been franked from his last race after the winner (Sir Barnabus) bolted in by almost six lengths at Doomben on Wednesday, giving Tony even great confidence that our boy is ready to win again.
“We’ll get good ground at the Sunshine Coast and the track should be in good order, so we go there full of confidence because his recent work has been terrific,” he said.
“We’ve brought him back in trip which I think will also suit, so with all that in mind he should be hard to beat. As we’ve seen you can ride him one of two ways but I’d rather that he didn’t get back in this race, because there’s probably not a whole lot of speed in it.
“If we’re close to the speed that would suit us better, we’d obviously rather have cover but it’s not the end of the world if we don’t, and the 59 kilos shouldn’t have too big an impact at the shorter distance.
“If he can run up to his recent form, he should be right in this. He’s in the right grade and in the right race, he’s in the best form of any horse in the field so he’s clearly the one to beat.”
Ryan Maloney, who was in the saddle for his recent thirds at both Doomben and Eagle Farm, takes the ride from barrier seven, we wish the best of luck to our partners in VAPORIZING.
