JETTY scored a courageous win on the quick back-up at Eagle Farm to take his career earnings through the $500,000 barrier.
JETTY built on his hard-fought third in the Listed Sunny Coast Cup with victory in the Open Handicap (1600m) under Jake Bayliss, who rated the son of Jet Spur to perfection.
The pair took the race by the scruff of the neck from the outset, ensuring a genuine gallop from the front.
With several of his rivals off the bridle, Bayliss turned the screw 400 metres from home and whilst JETTY was challenged all the way to the line, he held firm to register his eighth win and bring up a Saturday metro double for trainer Chris Munce.
Munce had been unsure whether or not to run him, but given the lack of alternative options the stable decided to roll the dice and the bold move paid spectacular dividends for our partners.
“He’s just so tough,” said Munce.
“He’s so relaxed and is a real gentleman at home, but on raceday he’s a different beast. This race was almost an afterthought to be honest, I was trying to look for a reason all week not to run him but he’s thrived since his huge third in the Sunshine Coast Cup.
“He’s so honest and he’s had a long prep so we may send him for a spell, but there’s a race at Randwick in two weeks’ time which might suit him so we’ll see how he pulls up and have a chat with the owners before making a decision.”
