KING KAPA took the first steps towards a Winter Carnival assault with a jump out at Doomben this week.
The speedy gelding made a flawless start to his life at Tony Gollan’s stables with four straight metropolitan wins over the Summer and he showed he was on track to pick up where he left off in his jump out.
Under a tight hold from regular rider Ryan Maloney, The King cruised home to finish second to lay the platform for a tilt at some sprint races over the lucrative carnival including the Listed Chief De Beers at Doomben on May 20.
Maloney was suitably impressed, saying: “I couldn’t have been happier with him.
“He was quite fresh and was probably a bit further forward than I had expected at this stage of his preparation, but it was a good measuring stick and he came through it with flying colours. So I don’t see why he couldn’t pick off a race or two over the carnival.”
Stay tuned for more news on KING KAPA as he gets closer to a racetrack return.
