In his first semi-competitive outing since his heroics on Scone Cup Day, VEGAS RAIDER finished third in his trial at Randwick this morning.
Given an easy time of it by Alysha Collett, whose brother Jason was in the saddle for our boy’s stunning Inglis Challenge victory, VEGAS RAIDER cruised round in the 2YO Colts & Geldings trial (742m).
The pair missed the start and settled at the rear of the field in the early stages, but VEGAS RAIDER made up plenty of ground on his rivals in the home straight.
“It was a lovely tick-over trial,” said Collett.
“He just popped up in the air a bit when the barriers opened, but we didn’t miss the kick too much and he relaxed into it really nicely. They went quite quick early but I was very pleased with the way he worked to the line, especially as I didn’t ask for too much for him.
“It was a very competitive trial and it almost felt like a 900-metre race, so it was a nice blowout for him and overall I was really pleased with him.”
The gelded son of Invader understandably took some time to recover from his huge effort at Scone, but the hitout should have brought on his fitness very nicely ahead of next assignment at Randwick this Saturday (June 11).
