RELIABLE RUBY built a picket fence and extended our red-hot run when she scored her third straight victory in some style at Doomben’s midweek metropolitan meeting.
Following back-to-back wins at the Sunshine Coast, the mare returned to city class and promptly took the step up in grade in her stride with a slashing victory under Damien Thornton.
The in-form hoop, who had been in the saddle for both her previous wins, had no option but to take up a position near the rear of the field from the wide draw.
But when he asked her for an effort upon straightening, RELIABLE RUBY exploded with a devastating burst of acceleration to come over the top of her rivals.
The win saw the daughter of Reliable Man take her earnings through the $100,000 barrier, and also extended our recent record to five victories and a minor placing from our last seven starters.
“We’ve really worked this mare out,’ said Corey Munce.
“She’s best kept fresh so we give her space between runs, and she seems to be very effective at the shorter trips.
“Damien was happy to sit out the back and bide his time, he’s riding in good form and he got it right today. We’ve always thought she’s up to Saturday metropolitan level, and the way she’s going that’s not out of the question. The Strong team are having a great run of it at the minute, so well done to them.”
