SUNSET SOIREE surged home at Eagle Farm to land her third career victory and continue our strong start to spring with our second winner in just five days.
A last-start fourth at the Sunshine Coast suggested SUNSET SOIREE had been building towards another win, and the mare relished the step up to 1500m in Wednesday’s Class 2 Handicap.
With regular rider Kyle Wilson-Taylor back in the saddle, SUNSET SOIREE sat in midfield before getting going rounding the home turn.
The daughter of Deep Field still had plenty of ground to make up at the 400-metre mark, but she swiftly mowed down the leaders with an impressive turn of foot and held off her fellow swooper to cling on by a neck.
“This mare has been busting to win a race,” said Tony Gollan, who trained four winners on the card.
“We wanted to let her travel where she was comfortable rather than getting her out of her comfort zone, and I would suggest there is even more improvement to come. She will definitely get a mile and I’m confident she will be even stronger at that sort of trip.
“We had a minor setback with some mucus earlier in her prep which put us a little behind where we wanted to be with her. She’s a very useful mare and I’ve got no doubts whatsoever that she’ll get back to Saturday metro grade very soon.”
The win took her earnings to $65,000, many congratulations to our partners: Mr A G Stark, Mrs J M Twomey, Mr M J Davidson, Mr R M Harvey, Mr P S Eaton, Mr C Wood, Shandy Hills Racing, Philp Racing, Mr D Condon, Mr J D Rowe, Mr J Caines, Mr B Anasta, Ms K McGain, Mr L A Hamblion, Mr N W Weston, Mr P Carr, Mr T Choi, Ms S Kemister and Showtime.
