SMOOTH TRIAL FOR AMERICAN WHISKEY

A return to the races is imminent for AMERICAN WHISKEY after our recent tried horse purchase flew home from the back of the pack in his 1200m trial at Warwick Farm on Monday morning.

Despite a slow start, AMERICAN WHISKEY made up plenty of ground on his rivals in the home straight and cruised home under Alysha Collett to finish less than a length off the winner.

It was his second trial for trainer David Pfieffer, who has identified a Benchmark 64 race over 1300m at the Newcastle meeting on Saturday week as the ideal starting point for the son of Declaration Of War.

“He showed great improvement, helped by more baseline fitness and further distance than his first trial,” said Pfieffer.

“He came through the trial well and ate everything overnight, so he’s very well in himself. Newcastle is one of the better draining tracks in News South Wales, so I’d be keen to have a look at that race for him. It’s probably a week earlier than I’d ideally like so we’ll just see how he is over the next few days before we make a firm plan, but at the moment things are looking good with him.”

The 5YO has only had three career starts, with a first and two seconds on a short but impressive CV, and after overcoming some setbacks he now looks to have rediscovered his old spark.

Having been away from the races since September 2020 AMERICAN WHISKEY, but he’s clearly moving in the right direction and after picking him up for just $25,000 in the Inglis January Online Sale, we’re very confident he’ll prove to be a bargain buy for our partners.
