SHIFFRIN successfully progressed from a Maiden to a Benchmark 58 Handicap with a sizzling win at Newcastle.
After claiming her first win at start number three, the daughter of Supido took plenty of confidence into Monday’s 1150m contest and promptly bolted in again under Grant Buckley.
The pair settled midfield off a hot tempo and looked to have their work cut out when the runaway leader gave a kick in the home straight.
But under Buckley’s urgings, SHIFFRIN engaged top gear to mow down the leader and continue our winning ways.
“She learned a lot from her first win and was really genuine today,” said Buckley.
“The main concern today was the gate, then when the leader kicked I got a little bit worried. But credit to the horse and to David [Pfieffer], who has done a great job with her.
“I think she’ll be able to step up in trip, she’s improving with every run and is definitely heading in the right direction.”
The victory was our fifth success from our last eight runners, with two minor placings thrown in for good measure!
Thanks to David for applying the polish and many congratulations to our partners: Mr P D Saunders, Halatex Pty Ltd, A M Inglis, Mr R J Knuppe, Mr S P Martin, Mr D M Gercovich, Mr A Bullow, Bond 007, Mr A C Buxton, Mr G Mende, K C M B, Roll Away Racing, Mr W J Pollock, Mr T J Williams, Mrs K Julius, Mr G J Mcdonald, Mr J W Quirk, Mr T Parkes, Mr B Pearce.
