RELIABLE RUBY GOES DOWN FIGHTING

Another honest performance from our ever-consistent mare saw RELIABLE RUBY take her career prizemoney earnings past the $50,000 mark at the Sunshine Coast this week.

The daughter of Reliable Man has been a model of consistency this prep, with a campaign-opening win followed up by three runner-up finishes for trainer Chris Munce.

A slow start almost certainly cost her victory in her previous start at the Sunny Coast, but she was swiftly away in Wednesday’s Benchmark 68 Handicap (1100m) on the polytrack.

A well-earned victory looked highly likely at the 200m mark, only for RELIABLE RUBY to be collared near the line by the fast-finishing winner.

“It was a terrific run, although narrowly beaten again,” said Munce.

“She jumped so much better which was pleasing to see but racing just behind the leaders is probably not the ideal spot for her.

“I think she is a filly that is better ridden quietly so I think we’ll now look to step her up to 1200m or 1300m.”

Despite another near miss, our partners have certainly had some fun this preparation, with Ruby now banking $53,475 from her nine career starts, meaning she has already more than recouped the $35,000 we paid for her at the 2019 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

A third career win is surely just around the corner for RELIABLE RUBY, congratulations to our partners on another brave display.
