RELIABLE RUBY came within a nostril of going back-to-back at Ipswich’s Labour Day meeting, but our girl lost no admirers after a luckless runner-up finish.
Having encountered mid-race interference which forced jockey Larry Cassidy to switch to the inside, RELIABLE RUBY flew home but just missed out on a third career victory in the Class 2 Plate (1100m).
Despite the narrow defeat, trainer Chris Munce was still full of praise for RELIABLE RUBY who also sustained a minor cut to her near side front knee during the race, adding further merit to the effort.
“Full credit to the horse, she was really brave in defeat,” said Munce.
“The jockey on the winner held us in a pocket and didn’t allow us any racing room, so Larry had no option but to dash through on the inside and she hit the line really well. No fault on Larry, he gave her every chance and she only lost by a short half head."
RUBY has lived up to her name and been a very reliable performer for our partners so far, having only finished outside the top three once in six career starts.
