Trainer Chris Munce will look to step RELIABLE RUBY up in trip this preparation after a very encouraging first-up run at Doomben at Midweek Metropolitan level.
In her first outing since breaking her maiden on debut at the Sunshine Coast in April, RELIABLE RUBY finished less than half-a-length behind the winner in the Class 1 Plate (1050m) on Wednesday.
RELIABLE RUBY looked well positioned after a gun run in transit from jockey Larry Cassidy, but was just unable to reel in the leader in a slowly run affair to finish third.
After the race, Cassidy was confident that our girl would be better suited by getting out in distance, giving Munce plenty of options as he looks to plot a path towards a second career victory.
“She was very brave first-up,” he said.
“It was a moderately run race and Larry said she travelled nicely for him, settled well in the run and looked to have her chance in the straight. But due to the lack of speed early, the winner was able to sustain a gallop.
“It was a very good run, and I was really encouraged by Larry’s comments after the race. He said she should get up to 1400 metres, which would be ideal for a filly like her. It was a very pleasing effort and she’ll take a lot of benefit from it.
"She will have a couple of easy days now, and then we’ll look for another race for her in a couple of weeks’ time.”
