RAIDER TO STEP UP IN GRADE

VEGAS RAIDER is set to tackle Saturday Metropolitan company in a fortnight after making a successful return to the races at Newcastle on Tuesday.

Having had just one trial heading into his racetrack return, VEGAS RAIDER produced a fast finishing third in limited racing room as jockey Tommy Berry tried to overcome a chequered passage over the final 200 metres.

Trainer David Pfieffer said the performance was a positive sign in his first outing as a three-year-old.

"I'm not sure about the navigational path that Tommy took going through the field, I was expecting he would have come down the outside," said Pfieffer.

"But in hindsight, it's a good thing to see he's happy to go between runners and he's obviously built more confidence since last preparation.

"I'm going to look at a race at Rosehill on December 3 which is a 3YO Benchmark 72 over 1200m."

It was great to see our boy back in the swing of things in a run that suggests he's in for an exciting Summer campaign.
