KING KAPA put on a clinical display of sustained speed to make his Stakes breakthrough in the Listed Hinkler Handicap (1200m).
On Queensland racing’s biggest stage, the King put his name up in lights with a dynamic display under Ben Thompson to take his prizemoney earnings through the $300,000 barrier.
After putting his rivals on notice with a brave third in the Listed Chief De Beers, the speedy son of Capitalist went two better for trainer Tony Gollan, who has now saddled him to five wins and a minor placing from seven starts for the stable.
“He’s been a fantastic acquisition to our stable, I really want to thank the team at Strong Bloodstock for sending him to us,” said Gollan.
“He came here off a really good run the other day in Stakes grade at Doomben, so we were confident even though it was an awfully good field, and he put them away today.
“I didn’t think he’d be able to lead and win this race. There looked a lot of pressure on paper, but Ben held his nerve and held that rail.
“Once we put him away and bring him back for the summer carnival, I think he’s going to be a sprinting star later this year. He’s really strengthened up, so he’s going to be a really good horse for the Strong team and for the stable over the next few years.”
The win also extended our recent record to four winners from our last five starters.
