Stablemates HEY BIG SPLENDA and JETTY (pictured) both went for a spin round their home track this week ahead of their return to the races in the near future.
Team Edmonds sent the pair to the Gold Coast barrier trials for a tune-up, with HEY BIG SPLENDA finishing a close second under Brad Stewart and JETTY closing off nicely in the same heat under a hold from Glen Boss.
The Women In Racing partnership were taken on a thrilling ride by HEY BIG SPLENDA during his debut preparation, with one win and two minor placings from his first four starts.
Toby and Trent sent the son of Rich Enuff to the paddock after he finished fourth at Doomben in March, and he ramped up his return to the racetrack with a pleasing performance on Monday morning.
“We didn’t want to do a whole lot with him because it was his first trial, he was probably a bit keener than we would’ve liked but it will have brought him on no end,” said Toby.
“He’ll probably have one more trial to bring him on some more, then we’ll look to take him back to the races.”
After a superb summer campaign which peaked with a Doomben win and two runner-up finishes at Eagle Farm, JETTY also spent some down time in the paddock before coming back into work last month.
His second trial brought the Jet Spur gelding on nicely, and he will now be set for the QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap over 1200m next Saturday.
“He went well in his trial,” said Toby.
“He got a little bit nervous before he went out, but that’s just him so nothing to worry about. He pulled up well and went for a light walk and a swim the morning after.
“He’s a big tough gelding, so we’ll keep things pretty simple with him and look to kick him off at the Gold Coast on Saturday week.”
