DEBUT DELIGHT FOR BOSSED UP PARTNERS

BOSSED UP proved too slick on debut at Gatton on Sunday to get his racing career off to the best possible start.

Following two strong trial performances, the son of Better Than Ready stepped out at the races for the first time and despite showing signs of greenness, the colt proved too good for his rivals in the QTIS 2YO Maiden Handicap (1100m).

The well-supported favourite will undoubtedly take plenty of improvement from his debut, but he proved there is a serious motor under the bonnet.

“It’s always great to see a young horse head to the races for the first time and win on debut,” said trainer Tony Gollan.

“It wasn’t by a big margin, but I always felt he had them safely held. You could see he got a bit lost out front on his own, he had no real idea what he was meant to be doing especially on that tight turning track. I’m sure if he’d had a bunny to chase, you would’ve seen a much better performance.

“But overall he handled the occasion pretty well and he trotted up beautifully the day after the race, so he’s come through the race very well.”

As for the second run of his prep, Gollan has identified a 2YO QTIS race over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast meeting on May 21 as his most likely next assignment.

“I don’t think stepping him up in distance is a good idea at this stage of his career, so we’ll keep him at the shorter trips for now,” he said.

“If he can take a trail and have something to follow at the Sunny Coast, I think you’ll see him hitting the line strongly and then we might look to target him at a city class race.”

Congratulations to our partners, who shared in a cheque for $22,700 including $10,500 in QTIS bonuses.
