BLAZEN BOOTS bounced back to form in spectacular fashion when he carried his career earnings past $100,000 at Doomben on Wednesday.
Not much had gone right at his previous start, but the son of Tavistock more than made amends in the Benchmark 68 Handicap (1630m) with a fourth career win which was aided by a brilliant ride by Blake Shinn.
The Victorian is in town for the Queensland Winter Carnival and he showed why he is held in such regard with a textbook steer on our boy.
The pair jumped smartly and sat just off the speed in the early stages of the contest, before Shinn made his move rounding the turn.
His only challenger, race favourite Cartwheels, made a late charge down the outside but BLAZEN BOOTS pinned his ears back and dived at the line to bring up victory by the narrowest of margins.
“He was fantastic today,” said Shinn.
“He won the race at the start when he jumped well and we were able to take up a prominent position off a moderate tempo. The second horse challenged really strongly from the 200-metre mark, but he fought very bravely and got the job done.”
