BLAZEN BOOTS FLIES FRESH FOR NEW STABLE

After an extended spell and a change of stables, BLAZEN BOOTS made an eye-catching return to the races with a dominant display at Doomben.

The son of Tavistock hadn’t been sighted at the races since October, but made light of the lengthy absence with a two-length romp in Wednesday’s Class 1 Handicap which took our recent record to three wins from our last four starters.

Having matured both physically and mentally during his time off, BLAZEN BOOTS looked the part at his first start for new trainer Tony Gollan and despite being at his best over a mile and further, he was still superior to his rivals over the shorter distance of 1350m.

Under a masterful ride by Ryan Maloney, who peeled him to the outside to give the gelding some clear running room in the straight, BLAZEN BOOTS powered home to bring up his second career victory and take his earnings past the $50,000 mark.

“That was a very good win,” Gollan told Sky Racing’s Bernie Cooper, who owns a share in our boy.

“Hats off to the team at Strong who sent him to us, we were able to give him a long spell and he has furnished into a really nice horse. It looked like he’d been quite an immature horse in the past, but he’s really filled out and switched on and he enjoys being a racehorse.

“You’ll see a better horse when he gets out over a mile and further, but he was still too good for them today. I thought he’d get a lovely run in transit, Ryan produced him at the right time and he was very strong through the line. There’s no reason why he couldn’t make his way to Saturday racing based on that performance.”

Maloney was equally impressed, saying: “He came in today in really good order, and the race panned out perfectly for us. There was good, genuine speed on, and we were able to get out and have the last crack at them.

“I didn’t want to get him out of his comfort zone so I left him alone early to conserve his energy. He came back underneath me nicely and put them away fairly comfortably in the end.”
