BARGAIN BUY ARRIVES RIGHT ON TIME

Updated: May 11

A withering late burst saw ROYLYN LASS break her maiden at Gatton as the bargain buy almost recouped her purchase price in one hit.

We bought the daughter of Spill the Beans in partnership with Munce Racing and Koolman Bloodstock for $30,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale, and she promptly collected a cheque for $27,950 (including QTIS bonuses) after saluting at career start number six.

Having charged home over 1200m at Ipswich on her return to competitive action 10 days ago, the filly looked ideally placed to build on that performance in today’s 3YO Maiden Plate (1400m).

And so it proved, as apprentice jockey Tahlia Fenlon peeled ROYLYN LASS to the outside in the home straight and our girl did the rest to wear down the odds-on favourite with an impressive turn of foot.

"She had a great run today,” said Fenlon.

“We drew a good gate, which really helped. I had to be quite aggressive in the early stages to hold our spot, and we got a beautiful run in transit.

“She relaxed really well, so I think she’ll get out over further distance because she switches off beautifully. Once we got out and she found her gears, she finished the race off really well so it was a great run.”
